APW - Rockford, "Wathier's Railway Watch Extra Jeweled" marked mvt, 15J, 18S, gold-filled HC recase with majestic stag image to rear, lightly engraved name within front, "J.P. Wathier, 178 W. Madison St. Chicago, Ills." marked white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, two-tone gilt and nickel damascene, s#304155. A rare and attractive railroad associated private label; Joseph P. Wathier & Co. ordered a wide range of unusual private label watches from Rockford Watch Co. and Illinois Watch Co. during the 1880s and 1890s and these can make for a very interesting collection.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, excellent two-tone color, scattered areas of mild spotting and micro-fine scratches to plates, oxide to regulator assembly; dial with few scattered very faint outer chapter hls, splotches of mild wispy haze in glaze reflection when viewed at angle; fine hands of mismatched styles; case shows very little wear, some scattered fine scratches to front and rear, no dents or dings, good engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows light wear, and some small nicks; good glass crystal.
